St. Louis City SC recently hosted the “Pillars of the Valley” dedication ceremony—a tribute to the former Mill Creek Valley. The series of eight granite pillars evoke hourglasses and recognize the neighborhood that was home to approximate 20,000 predominantly Black people, more than 800 businesses and more than 40 houses of worship before the city demolished it all in the late 1950s. It is the East St. Louis native’s largest artwork to date.
