In 2000, Lift for Life Academy became the first independent charter middle school to open in the City of St. Louis. St. Louis city families choose Lift for Life Academy for their children as a creative and motivating alternative to public schools. They love to put on events, and one of the most recent is the “Uber Asphalt,” an obstacle course/scavenger hunt challenge using bikes, brains and brawn. Starting and ending at Lift For Life Academy on Broadway, bikers in teams of two create their own courses throughout the city of St. Louis in order to get through six checkpoints in under three hours and before everyone else. At each of the six checkpoints, teammates complete an adventurous obstacle, collect a bottle cap, then remount their bikes and hit the streets for more. Special prizes are awarded to whichever team completes all the checkpoints in the shortest amount of time, but everyone who finishes gets a 6-pack of New Belgium beer or Fitz’s soda. This race is limited to the first 500 teams to register, and all the proceeds raised go to fund the Lift for Life Academy. Find out what it’s all about by checking out our YouTube page.
