Kimbilio is a St. Louis-based national organization dedicated to supporting and amplifying fiction writers of the African diaspora. The word Kimbilio means “safe haven” or “refuge” in Swahili, and that’s precisely what the organization aims to provide—a creative and professional community for black writers. David Haynes is the board chair of Kimbilio. He’s also a novelist, author of 13 books and professor emeritus of English at Southern Methodist University. Host/producer Sarah Thompson speaks with David about Kimbilio’s mission to create a space where black writers can thrive. They also talk about David’s latest book, “Martha’s Daughter.” Learn more: https://kimbiliofiction.com, https://hayneswrites.com
