Missouri now leads the nation with the highest rate of new COVID-19 infections as vaccinations lag behind. The main reason is that the Delta variant, which is more infectious and potentially more deadly than other variants, has become dominant around the Springfield area. One person in every 1,349 people in the state was diagnosed with COVID-19 between June 13 and June 27. In the St. Louis area, hospitalization rates have remained low, averaging a little more than 100 COVID-19 patients per day, but do keep those high numbers in mind if you’re considering traveling to Branson or the Lake of the Ozarks over the holiday. This week Dr. Echols answers questions about the recent state surge. Here are a few of the questions:
Belinda from 63147 asked, “Is it true that Missouri is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases?”
Missy from 63107 asked, “Should me 13-year-old grandson get a COVID-19 vaccine?”
Stephen from 63115 asked, “How long does protection from a COVID-19 vaccination last?”
Deloris from 63119 asked, “Can the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention require me to get a COVID-19 vaccination?”
