November 7, 2017 Election Results*
St. Louis Police Officers and Firefighters will soon see a substantial pay raise after voters passed the Proposition P referendum, allowing for a half cent sales tax increase. Although it only needed a simple majority to pass, about 60% of the voters said YES to the referendum.
Proposition P’s approval was a big victory for Mayor Lyda Krewson, who believes the measure will make St. Louis’ streets safer.
The approval will give city cops a raise of roughly $6000.00 annually and $4000.00 in annual benefits.
Opponents had argued the tax will unfairly affect the city’s poorest and most vulnerable residents and asked for reforms in the department instead.

Ward 2 Special Election
There was also a special election in the 2nd Ward to fill the seat of former alderwoman Dionne Flowers who now serves as the city’s Register. Democratic candidate Lisa Middlebrook will now serve in that capacity after capturing 49% of the votes. Her opponents in the race were Elston McCowan and Jasmine Turnage. Middlebrook will finish out Flowers’ remaining term, which runs through 2019.
